This is a short guide that explains how we tidy and format transcripts.
Writing
- We make grammatical corrections where, without them, it would be awkward to read. Generally we try to keep transcripts verbatim. (The transcripts are also used for subtitles on YouTube)
- We usually remove filler words – “erms” and “ums” and if someone said the same word a few times.
- If someone swears, we don’t sensor it in the transcript, and we warn at the start of the show
- We add quotes around quoted sections.
- We generally follow the spelling of English spoken by the speaker. So things James says would be British English, and things Per says would be US English. This is next-level stuff and not something we push for.
Formatting
- We write the speaker’s name each time the speaker changes.
- When publishing we mark the speaker’s name in bold.
- We break long sections up into paragraphs to improve readability
