“Unfold your brain – Skyrocket your creative ability” was the title of Denise’s workshop. We looked at how to banish our inner critic and the mental blocks that get in the way of creative thinking. We also looked at how you can improve focus and get your brain into a state where you access creative ideas best.

Hey UXPodcast & Denise,
The whispering compliments exercise sounds great. I’m trying to spread it in my company, but i can’t find anything about it. What is it called? Where can i read more? Anything to send my colleagues?
Thanks in advance,
Joep
Hi Joep!
I got that exercise from a workshop that I took from Lisa Nichols back in 2009. Honestly, I don’t know what it is called, but I call it “Give What You Didn’t Get”.
The way it works is this:
The messages that others tell us and that we tell ourselves dramatically
influence how we see our place in the world. Most of us didn’t get the
encouragement we needed in order to feel empowered around being
creative.
Split into two groups. The first group will stand in the room with their
eyes closed. The second group will go around to each person and tell them something positive and encouraging about creativity and being creative.
Important: Don’t tell them what you think they want to hear. You must tell the recipient the messages that you’ve always wanted to hear yourself.
Recipients: When someone tells you something, mentally/in your head say “Thank You.”
Then the groups will switch places and repeat the process.
I hope that helps! Let me know how it goes, and feel free to contact me for any more questions :).
