At UXLx James and Per both attended Val Head’s workshop to learn more about animation in online interfaces. The workshop gave us some excellent examples and Val had us experiment with prototyping animation. In this interview we learn a bit more about animation best practices and how animation for example can help with spatial orientation, feedback mechanisms and communicating your brand.

Val Head held the workshop “Animating the user experience”. We looked at why motion is so useful in our designs and took some time to go through Disney’s 12 principles of animation and how they are applied to our design processes.
Pamela Pavliscak, founder of Change Sciences, joined us directly off stage at From Business To Buttons after her talk The Science of Happy Design (slides from SXSW). We talk to Pamela about happiness. If you are happy after using a website, you rate it better. You’re more likely to buy from it, use it again, recommend it. Can we create happiness? Can we design it?
In this linkshow James and Per discuss 3 articles they’ve found during their digital travels. We start off by discussing customer experience landmines – things (from the experiences of a non-uxer) that can be hurdles for your customers. In the middle of the show we get delightful and discuss adding delight to your ux. Finally we peel back the buzz and look at working with touchpoints.
